A Quick & Easy Guide For Spring Bedroom Cleaning!

I know this topic may be a little late, but with school, work, and extra-curriculars I don’t think anyone has much time to spring clean. I have decided to dedicate this week Friday and Saturday to completely de-cluttering my room. As much as I hate cleaning, I think it is important to give my room a fresh summer feel. Trust me, if you keep your eye on the prize, once you are finished cleaning, you will feel SO accomplished and SO happy!

1. Start with your floor!

If you have a whole bunch of dirty clothes or shoes on the floor, find an empty laundry basket to throw your clothes in and organize your shoes. With this in mind, after you have thrown all of your clothes into a basket, it may not be a bad idea to start washing those dirty clothes! This way your laundry will be washing while your room will be getting cleaned. (Killing two birds with one stone?! I think yes!)

2. Clean those Sheets!

It is important to change your bed sheets once a week and to sleep with a new pillowcase every other day. When your sheets are not changed regularly it can lead to bad bacteria growth which can later result in harmful skin infections. It is also important to change your pillowcase frequently as well. This is because, once your pillow has been slept on, it has collected various amounts of oils from your face. When you come back the following night to sleep on your pillow all of those oils from the previous night before are then reabsorbed back into your skin causing infected pores and bad blemishes.

Once you have a fresh pair of sheets on, don’t forget to make your bed! Making your bed will create space for other things in your room that will be sorted out later.

3. Make a List!

Okay, now everything is off of your floor, your laundry is in the washing machine, AND your bed is made. You’re all done, right? Wrong! This is when the decluttering and hard part comes in.

Make a list of everything that needs to be gone through and organized. Start with what is going to be easy and work your way up to the hard tasks that will end up taking more time. Having a plan or a list will keep you focused on the task at hand.

When you have finished your list and start to de-clutter, separate the items you are going through by categories. Make a junk/garbage pile, a keep pile, a donate pile, and maybe even a storage pile? Using these categories or similar ones will allow you to feel more organized. De-cluttering is a very important skill because clutter has psychological influences, it signals your brain that work is not done.

4. Don’t forget about the laundry you had washed earlier!

Once you have finished de-cluttering your entire room, the laundry that you started earlier should hopefully be done and dry! This only works if you not only have a timer set on your washer/dryer but also one on your phone. This way you can be alerted and never miss a cycle that needs to be switched.

Clean and fold your laundry that was washing while you were cleaning. This way, there will be no worries about having to finish anything for your “new” room.

5. Add a Pop of Color!

To finish your room, add a few colorful pillows or artwork to your bedroom. This can be very cute and super inexpensive! Try stopping at your local Marshalls/Home Goods to see if there are any good finds.
