If you know anything about the midwest, I'm sure it has something to do with the fact that the weather has a mind of its own. Consisting of freezing mornings that require a jacket and blazing hot nights that are begging you to put those short-shorts on. What do you wear in this bipolar weather? Most importantly, how do you keep it looking cute while still comfortable?
First things first is to always look at the weather forecast before choosing an outfit. Trust me, wearing sandals and walking in puddles does NOT mix.
When it comes to those kind of days where it is serious rain ALL DAY, I try to dedicate them to movie days. Unfortunately, a day strictly dedicated to my bed and Netflix does not come around very often. What happens when it's raining cats and dogs? A transparent umbrella is KEY! The best part about a transparent umbrella is the fact that it matches ANY outfit and a rainy day pic for that stellar Instagram feed? Yes please!
Another quick necessity for these pouring days is of course, rain boots! Rain boots come in a variety of colors and sizes as well. Considering it is summer and a bit warmer out, ankle rain boots are going to be your best friend. (They now even have 'lace-up' rain boots that look like converse!) “While it’s tempting to grab the cute pair from Target,” Garman said, “cheaper boots can tear or let water in.” Not a cute look. Invest in a sturdy pair of Hunter boots to keep your feet warm and dry.
What about the days where it's only on and off raining? Keeping in mind, it is usually humid when it rains in Milwaukee, do NOT wear anything heavy or bulky. It will weigh you down and make you sweat in places you have not sweat in before... yuck! Instead, try a flowy pair of pants. This way, your legs will be shielded from the rain while still allowing them to breathe. Flowy pants aren't your thing? Try a dress or a skirt!
With all of this being said, never wear silk! Silk tends to show sweat marks that definitely want to be especially avoided on hot and humid days. If it is an absolute necessity for you to wear silk, stick to something white!
Investing in a lightweight trench coat may not be a bad idea either! Try a linen trench coat. It allows you to stay cool while still being protected from the rain.
I hope you were able to soak-up some new inspiration!
Stay stylish,
xoxo
