I didn't realize there are right and wrong ways to proper hair care until I religiously started to pay attention to my hair. Having healthy hair helps avoid extensive damage that can lead to hair loss. Clean hair promotes a healthy environment for strong hair growth. Proper hair care is very important. Trust me, washing your hair with celebrity advertised shampoo and conditioner is NOT enough! My holy grail hair care routine has not only changed its health, but the state of my hair as well. Here's how you can change yours too!
When it comes to shampoo's and conditioner's, I recommend stopping by your hair stylist and asking him or her what they think is going to perform the best on your hair. This may include finding a shampoo and conditioner that helps with color-treated hair, dry/frizzy hair, oily hair, strength cure, and more. (Just because a certain shampoo and conditioner combo looks and smells great on your best friend does not mean it will do the same for you!)
I start by getting my hair wet with warm water. When water is too hot, it will remove too much oil from your scalp. The oil hair produces is a fat that the scalp naturally generates for protection. When there is not enough, it can be dangerous and hurt the health of your hair.
After my hair is soaked, I start by using my, "Redken Extreme Shampoo." I love it because it is perfect for damaged, color-treated hair. It's also great because the shampoo has protein in it. When hair is colored, a lot of the natural proteins are stripped from the hair causing it to damage. This is why it is important to have protein in your shampoo to replace the protein that was lost during your highlight appointment!
In order to keep my hair as blonde as it is, I add a pea-size amount of, "Pureology Strength Cure Best Blonde Shampoo" to my hair as well. The strength cure is very concentrated which is why it is mixed with the "Redken Extreme Shampoo" to act as a dilutant to keep my hair from turning purple!
Once my hair is thoroughly scrubbed, I make sure to thoroughly rinse too! When conditioner is added over shampoo it locks the product into the hair cuticle allowing the hair to produce oil quicker.
As I am about to add conditioner to my hair, I make sure to ring out my hair very well. This allows for the ends of my hair to absorb more of the product which results in more cuticle protection. I focus on applying my "Redken Extreme Conditioner" specifically to the ends of my hair. It is not too necessary to apply conditioner to the top of your scalp due to the fact that it is new, fresh hair. Where as the ends of your hair have been there for much longer needing more protection.
This brings us to the end of my washing routine. For my final rinse, I try to rinse my hair with cold water. Cold water seals the hair cuticles giving it a unique strength and leaving it looking brighter and shinier.
Once my hair has been towel dried and is still damp, I like to comb through my hair with a "Wet Brush." To protect my hair from getting damaged while combing through it, I like to spray "Pureology Serious Colour Care 21 Essential Benefits Colour Fanatic" throughout my hair. The name of the product is pretty self-explanatory as to why it is my favorite product ever! 21 Benefits in one spray? That's crazy! This product has saved my hair so many times! My favorite benefits out of this product are its detangling and heat protecting services.
After I have combed through my hair a few times, I like to apply, "Living Proof Prime Style Extender" throughout my hair as well. This more than all of the other products is what I believe allows me to wash my hair every three days. It leaves my hair feeling cleaner, smelling fresher, looking shinier, and allows it to have a longer wash period!
To finish my routine, I like to blow dry my hair. As my hair starts drying, I progressively make the blow dryer cooler. This helps the hair cuticle because it protects the ends more!
I know for some, my haircare routine may be overwhelming or a lot to take in. I just wanted to remind you, it took a long time for me to create this routine and to perfect it. It's not easy, but finding the right hair products for your hair helps tremendously! Finding a good hair care routine will leave your hair happy and healthy.
Stay stylish,
xoxo
